Carollee’s Story
Birth Control Sabotage
Carollee started dating a 32-year-old man when she was 19. Things went well at first and they began to sleep together. She was on birth control pills, however, she noticed that whole rows of pills would disappear. When Carollee called her boyfriend on the disappearing birth control, he responded that he “knew” she wanted to have his child. Carollee also noticed that he was sabotaging the condoms, but didn’t bring it up.
Shortly after they got together, Carollee became pregnant and her boyfriend began to monitor and control her more carefully. He would always want to know where she was going and with who. He would hold her against the wall to inspect what she was wearing, but he wasn’t beating her so she assumed it wasn’t violence. Carollee began to get scared. He was getting drunk and high more often and he had already abandoned a baby that he had with another woman. Carollee decided to go to Planned Parenthood to have an abortion, but when she got there, she couldn’t afford it. While she was trying to figure out Medi-Cal, he came to find her and dragged her back home. This is when things turned very violent. He said he would kill her if she had an abortion, and so she had his baby. When she gave birth, he was in prison for a kidnapping charge.
Carollee returned to him when he was released from prison because of his promise never to hurt her again, but that promise didn’t last long. He started to beat her even more violently. Everything was always Carolle’s fault. He finally left Carollee after he had cheated on her and gotten another woman pregnant.
After they broke up, Carollee moved and got a new car and job so that he could never find her again. Currently he is serving time in jail for attempting to bomb a building with people still inside. Carollee was 22 when they separated. From prison, he continued to harass Carollee and her daughter, but prison officials have been able to stop the harassment.
